The establishment of energy cooperative DuurSaam BuurtWint UA in March 2024 marked another step towards a more sustainable future for the Genne/Haerst region. With a strong focus on renewable energy, this cooperative has now recruited more than 70 members, a sign of the broad support and commitment within the community. The cooperative not only offers residents and landowners an opportunity to contribute to the energy transition, but also to jointly benefit from the proceeds.
Strong involvement of landowners
A special aspect of this project is the active involvement of landowners from the project area. As many as 24 landowners have signed an agreement to make their land available for the project. This has laid a solid foundation for the realisation of wind turbines. Thanks to the elaborated land compensation model, a fair distribution of revenues is guaranteed. The model also takes into account the immediate surroundings and its residents so that they too can benefit from the developments.
Researching optimal location for wind turbines
A study on the spatial and landscape incorporation of the wind turbines is currently underway. This process is essential to determine where best to place the turbines, considering both technical feasibility and landscape and community impact. The project is distinguished by its cooperative approach, in which the interests of the surrounding area are central. This is reinforced by open communication with residents and landowners, which has contributed to broad support.
Financial participation and local involvement
Besides offering land for the project, members and landowners also have the opportunity to participate financially in the cooperative. This set-up encourages local ownership and ensures that revenues stay in the region.
A cooperative model for the future
The residents and landowners who are members of the cooperative are themselves the driving force behind the project. This not only ensures a fairer distribution model, but also a stronger sense of ownership within the community. The carefully thought-out plan and commitment to the surrounding area have resulted in broad support, which is essential for the successful realisation of renewable energy projects.
At LEIS, we are proud to play a supporting role in the area process of energy cooperative DuurSaam BuurtWint UA. With our expertise, we guide the cooperative through the complex phases of the project. We contribute to drawing up clear and fair agreements, facilitate talks with the Province of Overijssel and the municipalities of Zwolle and Zwartewaterland and support in applying for subsidies. In addition, we assist in working out a request in principle, taking important steps together with the cooperative towards a sustainable future for the Genne/Haerst region.
